Ever dreamt of starting up your own fashion line? Fashion student at uni? Or just have an idea for a new product but daunted by the process of taking a fashion line to market?
The team behind the new St. John’s neighbourhood at Manchester’s Old Granada Studios have assembled a fashion dream team who are prepped and fully equipped to offer a helping hand – in a live workshop experience for one lucky winner.
Sprinkling years of knowledge to help create a new brand or product for free – one lucky emerging designer will be picked to have their designs given the expert treatment by six varied industry professionals at the festival launch for St. John’s new creative industries cluster, ECUK on 26thApril.
The fairy godmother line-up will include a fashion branding/identity expert, stylist, fashion and lifestyle photographer, marketing and PR professionals, fashion bloggers and a mentoring/networking guru.
Each expert will narrate and explain their stage of the process during the live workshop- alongside other experts from the industry including retouchers, e-commerce professionals, journalists, designers and buyers. There will only be one winner who will have the experience tailored to their brand – but the live 3-hour event will be open to others in the industry who will have the chance to learn from and talk with experts on hand.
Daisy Barnes from St. John’s added: “It can be incredibly hard to know where to begin when starting a fashion brand. Whether you’re starting with just one product or a full collection it’s not always obvious to know where to invest both time and money to get your brand off the ground. We wanted to create an open and collaborative experience – where those who have gone through the process – and those who help others do so as their day job – can unveil some of the secrets to success alongside common pitfalls in an interactive way.
The experience will be an brilliant opportunity for the chosen designer – but we hope it will become a resource for other young, British designers too as the workshop will be documented and streamed by Reform Radio and archived online. The Granada Studios site was built on live output – so we’re very excited by the prospect of creating a new brand live on site at the festival. One designer will walk in with an idea and leave with a marketable product and roadmap to go forward.”
Anyone interested in the full fairy godmother service should send over no more than one A4 page with at least one visual – a photograph of an existing item or a sketch – and a short paragraph on the concept for the product(s)/brand. All ideas welcome – no judgement. Entries close 24th April.
